History
Kappa Kappa Psi, the National Honorary Band Fraternity, was founded November 27, 1919 by William A. Scroggs, A. Frank Martin, Raymond D. Shannon, William H. Coppedge, Clyde Haston, Carl A. Stevens, Clayton E. Soule, Asher Hendrickson, Iron Hawthorne Nelson, and Dick Hurst.  The Alpha Chapter is located at Oklahoma State University, then called Oklahoma A & M.  The Guiding Spirit of Kappa Kappa Psi is Bohumil Makovsky.

The Eta Alpha Chapter at Lock Haven University was founded
October 19, 1975 by Dr. Stephen Verbeck, Kenneth D. Tarr, Richard J. Mercury, Robert E. Kelly, and Joseph C. Parrell III.  Our sponsor at the time was Dr. Florentino Caimi, the Director of Bands.  Since then, we have taken 44 classes of membership candidates.  The Verbeck tree is the only one in our chapter that still survives.

Kappa Kappa Psi - Eta Alpha and Tau Beta Sigma - Epsilon Upsilon hosted the Northeast District Convention at Lock Haven University in
1978.  Central Precinct meetings have been located here in 2006, 1997, 1993, and 1989.

Eta Alpha won Top Chapter at District Convention in
1992 and 1986.  In 1977, Eta Alpha won the Traveling Trumpet award for the chapter most likely to succeed.  We were one of the "Top Ten Chapters" (National Chapter Leadership Award recipients) during 1975-77 and 1991-93.

Eta Alpha has seen six of its brothers become officers of the Northeast District:
Jessica McAlarney, Edward Savoy, Scott Clark, John P. Ross, Tim George, and Michael S. Condel.

Eta Alpha's big chapter is the
Zeta Alpha Chapter at Bloomsburg University.

Eta Alpha has three little chapters:
Theta Gamma at California University, Kappa Gamma at Lehigh University, and Eta Tau at Allegheny.

Eta Alpha is one of the few chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi lucky enough to have its own alumni organization, the
Eta Alpha Alumni Association (HAAA), which is prounounced just like it looks.

Currently we have twenty active brothers and twenty-five honorary members.  Our chapter sponsor and director if band
s is Mr. Jack R. Schmidt.
