Hopefully we can share some information on common ancestors or helpful hints while you are here in my library. Genealogy.com is one of the largest online. It now encompasses the paid services from the former Familytreemaker.com including the family home pages, as well as the free message boards from Genforum.com.

Rootsweb This place is the oldest  and largest (free) genealogical site in existance and has thousands of files. It is now supported by Ancestry.com

Family Search.org A free resource from the LDS church.
I have found it invaluable in my research.

Ancestry.com this site is one of the largest online. It has a few free resources and alot that become available after you pay the membership fee. You can join for 1 month to a year.
