Shibahime Tsubasa is a petite and cute yet rather beastly girl (now how much sense did that make?) who has been friends with Arima since elementary school. Because of similar pasts, they understand eachother, and he thinks of her as a younger sister. Tsubasa likes Arima though, and therefore stages a street fight against Miyazawa constantly. Eventually they are able to overcome their differences. Tsubasa loves her father very much and believes that the two of them need only eachother for support, and opposes his remarriage. She won't open up to many people very quickly because of her past and her situation at home and in life. Tsubasa is the same age as her classmates (although she often does not look or act like it). She has a weakness for food and security, and can act like an ornery wild animal.
Sakura Tsubaki is a star volleyball player. She loves beautiful things (and is thus friends with Tsubasa and Maho) and especially pretty girls. When she was younger, she was extremely violent and pushy, and though she has calmed down somewhat now, she is still very carefree and unbothered by many things. She is strong and spirited, though rowdy and can be rather evil at times (especially when teasing Tsubasa is concerned). She befriends Miyazawa Yukino while Tsubasa is fighting her. She also has many experiences with Tonami Takefumi, a student she used to pick on constantly, but who has come back as a completely different person to wreak his revenge on her.
Sawada Aya is very good at exploiting peoples' weak spots. She has strong literary talent and has been published in magazines and won many awards for her work. She also smokes (which Miyazawa stomps out of her), and is determined and calculating. She is good at assessment and keeping her cool, though she can get very worked up over her writing. She is friends with Tsubasa, Tsubaki, and Rika (off of whom she basically uses and parasites). However, she feels guilty and vulgar when Rika honestly congratulates her from her heart, so perhaps she really is under Rika's thumb after all. She later writes a play for the Cultural Festival and persuades Tsubasa, Maho, and Yukino to star in it.
Sena Rika is the gentle feminine member of the group. She really loves Aya, and is very proud of her friend's talent in writing. She honestly admires Aya, something which Aya cannot comprehend at all. She seems off-handed or rather clueless at times, and it looks as though Aya uses her, though they are really very good friends. She is good in home economics and can make all sorts of beautiful crafts, sewing projects, et cetera. She usually spends her time being the distressed one on outings with her friends as Aya and Tsubaki tease and goad Tsubasa.
Isawa Maho was the head of her class in middle school. However, when she reaches high school, her place as number one is taken by Miyazawa Yukino. Resentful of this, Maho spitefully plots to cause Miyazawa's downfall from popularity. She manipulates the class into ignoring Miyazawa. When she and Yukino finally have their showdown, Maho loses the trust of the class, and finally admits and realizes that she is no longer number one, and there will always be someone better than you in the world. Because she feels she owes her one, she befriends Miyazawa and agrees that she would like to change for the better as well.
Tonami Takefumi arrives at Hokuei Prefectural School in episode 19. He was formerly a student of the district, but moved to Okinawa for three years. When he came back, he was completely changed. Before he left, he was spoiled and pampered by his rich parents, so he was weak of both body and mind, and had some psychological problems. Because of this, he was picked on constantly by other classmates, but especially by Tsubaki, who was ultraviolent and very demanding. Therefore, when Tonami left, he swore he would change and come back as a different person and make Tsubaki feel the pain she inflicted on him. |
