Biography

Marianne Olyver (Violin) studied the violin in London and Geneva with Max Rostal, Alfredo Campoli and Emanuel Hurwitz CBE. She regularly broadcasts on BBC Radio 2 Richard Baker's ‘Melodies for You', ‘Friday Night is Music Night', ‘Desmond Carrington All Time Greats', BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune', Brian Kay's ‘Light Programme' and Classic FM. Her guest appearance on ‘Womans Hour' where she performed live was voted Radio 4 Pick of the Week. She has given recitals with Geoffrey Pratley both in the UK and abroad.

Geoffrey Pratley (Piano) is one of Britain 's best-known accompanists and duo-pianists. For well over 20 years he was a regular recital partner in Britain and in many foreign countries to Dame Janet Baker, the French ‘cellist Paul Tortelier and the British violinist Ralph Holmes, as well as a host of other world famous soloists such as Domingo, Steich, Brymer, Milanova, Goossens etc. Many of his recitals have been broadcast on Radio 3.

He has taught Piano Accompaniment and coached singers at the Royal Academy of Music since 1965, and additionally at Trinity College of Music since 1990. During this period he taught many Hong Kong students who are now firmly established as distinguished performers and teachers.

His publications include Six Irish and Six English Folksong arrangements (voice and piano), many of which were written for and performed by Dame Janet, and three books of Great Orchestral Violin and Cello Solos (with piano accompaniment). His book ‘Great Operatic Melodies' arranged for piano duet has often been used in duet classes in competitive Music Festivals. All these books are published by Kevin Mayhew, Ltd.
