KK Music Festival 2004!

Sunday 29th August 2004

The KK Music Festival is the annual music competition of the Kota Kinabalu Music Society. It is open to players of all instruments (including voice) and to all ages/grades. It started out as an in- house concert but soon became a more competitive activity as it served as a platform for music enthusiasts, regardless of age, to perform and share their music making with the public. Besides this it also helps the performers to build their confidence and create lasting memories of their challenges of public performance and raise the awareness of music and its appreciation in the community.

Chairman of the Music Society, Helen Tseu, stressed, “Young players really benefit from taking part in events like this. They pick up so much from just observing others play, absorb so much music that they might not otherwise get to hear, learn to judge their own standard against others (and hopefully get inspired to improve themselves!) and, most importantly of all, have fun making music rather than just sitting at home practicing and going to their lesson once a week.”

This event is expanding annually and attracted 260 participants and an audience of 350 people last year, the highest number achieved since it started. Previous adjudicators comprised of the present and past Chief Examiners of the Royal Schools of Music, London , the Regional Consultant of the Board, famous and experienced concert pianists.

For this, its 12 th year, the judges will be Geoffrey Pratley and Marianne Olyver from the UK .

ntries from contestants need to be received by 5 th August at the latest. Forms are available from leading music shops in KK and from the Kota Kinabalu Music Society.
