An oft quoted phrase from a book by George Santayana: The Life of Reason (1905-1906), vol. 1, Reason in Common Sense.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
It seems that even if we do remember history, we are condemned to repeat it.

Malcome Mugridge stated: "All "New" news is only "Old" news happening to new people".

That is not always a bad thing. We would do well to repeat some things of the past such as the age of enlightenment. And we would do well to avoid the highlights of the 20th century - War.

We have sadly re-entered the Dark Ages.

In this post modern age, History is no longer the facts of the past in the light of their influences on us, but commentary on the reselected priorities of the society on the persons of the past. Jefferson is not heralded for the articulation of the ideals of freedoms penned within the constitution but an abusive slave owner. It is appropriate to recognize context. The equal application of the purity of the ideal pertaining to all peoples within this country required a war. At the time of Jefferson, we the people were attempting to create a nation.
