Do we want rewards from God? As we will see in this word study,
rewards are what is deserved through our effort. Synonyms are Pay and Wages.
The circumstances of life may fool us in this reguard. There is the tendency to
believe ease in life is the acknowledgment of God that we are doing well.
And similarly bad circumstances befall us when the judgment of God upon us.
After all:
Galatians 6:7-8
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction;
the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
How about this one? Now be careful, this is an accusation.
Job 4:7-9
"Consider now: Who, being innocent, has ever perished?
Where were the upright ever destroyed?
As I have observed, those who plow evil
and those who sow trouble reap it.
At the breath of God they are destroyed;
at the blast of his anger they perish.
Define the term. It is the word that we study. So what is the word used here.

to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your
Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
My AWANA Verse. Kids are sure thirsty.
Matthew 10:41-42Anyone who receives a prophet
because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who
receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous
man's reward.
And if anyone gives even a cup
of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you
the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward."

But who gives us the ability to work? Who gives us the work itself to do?
1 Corinthians 3:5-15What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.
If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.
If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
1 Corinthians 9:17-27If I preach voluntarily,
I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.
What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make use of my rights in preaching it.
Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law.
To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.
I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.
No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Your station in life is not the determiner of what you receive. Only those things done for Christ.
Ephesians 6:8because you know that the Lord
will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or
free.
Colossians 3:24since you know that you will
receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ
you are serving.
Don't take it for granted. God is serious.
Hebrews 10:26-39
If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while,
"He who is coming will come and will not delay.
But my righteous one will live by faith.
And if he shrinks back,
I will not be pleased with him." But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
Hebrews 11:6And without faith it is
impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he
exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Moses made the choice.
Hebrews 11:26He regarded disgrace for the
sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was
looking ahead to his reward.
Each of us must persist in the walk of faith.
2 John 1:8-9Watch out that you do not lose
what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.
Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
We can take our eyes off the reward. There are turbulent times are ahead.
Revelation 11:18The nations were angry; and
your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for
rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who
reverence your name, both small and great– and for destroying those who destroy
the earth."
Revelation 22:12"Behold, I am coming soon!
My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he
has done.
Philippians 3:13-15
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
Matthew 20
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
1"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went
out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. 2He
agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3"About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the
marketplace doing nothing. 4He told them, 'You also go and work in my
vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' 5So they went.
6"He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and
did the same thing. About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others
standing around. He asked them, 'Why have you been standing here all day long
doing nothing?' 7" 'Because no one has hired us,' they answered.
"He said to them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard.'
8"When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his
foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last
ones hired and going on to the first.' 9"The workers who were
hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. 10So
when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each
one of them also received a denarius. 11When they received it, they
began to grumble against the landowner. 12'These men who were hired
last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who
have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.'
13"But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to
you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? 14Take your pay and go.
I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you.
15Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are
you envious because I am generous?' 16"So the last will be first,
and the first will be last."
Would you rather have the gift than the reward or wage.
Romans 3:23for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 4:4Now when a man works, his
wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.
1 Timothy 5:18For the Scripture says, "Do
not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain,"[Deut. 25:4] and
"The worker deserves his wages."[ 5:18 Luke 10:7]
Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.

The Gifts Christ received.
Matthew 2:11On coming to the house, they
saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then
they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of
incense and of myrrh.
Matthew 7:11If you, then, though you are
evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Acts 8:20Peter answered: "May your money
perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with
money!
Romans 5:15-17But the gift is not like
the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more
did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus
Christ, overflow to the many!
Again, the gift of God is
not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and
brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought
justification.
For if, by the trespass of the
one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who
receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of
righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 9:6-16
Sowing Generously
6Remember this: Whoever sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap
generously. 7Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to
give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all
things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good
work. 9As it is written: "He has scattered abroad his gifts to
the poor; his righteousness endures forever." 10Now he who supplies seed
to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed
and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be
made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and
through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
12This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs
of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
13Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men
will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel
of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
14And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you,
because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15Thanks be to God
for his indescribable gift!

man!"

whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand
firm in the Lord, dear friends!

our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord
Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?

according to the rules.

the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will
award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for
his appearing.

under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the
crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to
test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the
point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.

what you have, so that no one will take your crown.
Revelation 4:4Surrounding the throne were
twentyfour other thrones, and seated on them were twentyfour elders. They were
dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.

ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
