Lesson:
The Rose Garden Life?
1Peter 1:6: In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may
have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
1Peter 2:19-21: For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust
suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
1Peter 3:14-17: But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.
"Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." But in your hearts set apart
Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you
to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and
respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously
against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. It is
better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
1Peter 4:1: Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves
also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done
	with sin.
1Peter 5:9:	Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your
brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

The Redeemed Are Called to Put Off the Old Nature. (What is the Old Nature?)
Adam and Eve (Gen 3:1-13) Seeking independence from God
Cain(Gen 4:3-5) Hoarding
Noah(Gen 9:20-21) Using good things with the wrong ends
Ham(Gen 9:22) Winking at sin
Lot(Gen 13:8-11) Looking out for number 1
Esau(Gen 25:29-34) Selling his birthright for a meal
Saul(1Sam 18:6-11) Personal ambition before godliness.
David(2Sam 11:1-24) Permitting lust and passion to rule him.
///Looking inward rather than upward. Putting self-will before God's will.///

Obedience to Christ Implies denial of self.
Mat 16:24: Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me,
he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."
1Peter 4:1-2: Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves
also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done
with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil
human desires, but rather for the will of God.

Called to suffer for Righteousness' Sake.
1Peter 3:13-17: Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even
if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what
they fear; do not be frightened." But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the
reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your
good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. It is better, if it
is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
1Peter 1:15-16:	But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you
do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
1Peter 4:4: They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the
same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.
1Peter 4:12-19: Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you
are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice
that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed
when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ,
you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. If you
suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal,
or even as a meddler. However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed,
but priaise God that you bear that name. For it is time for judgment to begin
with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for
those who do not obey the gospel of God? And, "If it is hard for the righteous
to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the siner?" So then, those who
suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator
	and continue to do good.

Called to Resist Evil. It is REAL
1Peter 5:8-11: Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing
firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are
undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called
you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while,
will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be
the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Rejoicing Under Strange Circumstances
1Peter 2:12: Live such good lives among the pegans that, though they accuse
you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he
	visits us.
1Peter 2:15: For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the
	ignorant talk of foolish men.
1Peter 3:1-2: Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that,
if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by
the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.
1Peter 3:9-12: Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with
blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he
must seek peace and persue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against
	those who do evil."

Setting
1Peter 1:18-21: For you know that it was not with perishable things such as
silver or gold that you were redeemed from your forefathers, but with the
precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen
before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for
your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and
glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
1Peter 1:3-5: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through
the resureection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance
that can never perish, spoil or fade---kept in heaven for you, who through
faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is
ready to be revealed in the last time.
