Katherine Kelly Lang's Biography

Katherine Kelly Lang stars as Brooke Logan Forrester, a beautiful young chemist from California's San Fernando Valley, whose life aspiration is to rise above her blue collar roots. With ambition and beauty, her life has become intertwined with the Forrester family on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Katherine is one of the four original cast members, originating the role of Brooke Logan. She is quick to point out how comfortable and happy she is at B&B. It's like a second home to her. Her character's life on the show has been a roller coaster of unrequited love since 1987 after meeting Ridge Forrester at his family party at which Brooke was waitressing to help out her family's catering business. Brooke has emerged as the show's quintessential heroine, always in turmoil, and until recently, forever chasing after Ridge Forrester.

Katherine is one of three children in a show business family. Her parents are Keith Wegeman, an Olympic long-jump skier who went on to play television's Jolly Green Giant, and Judith Lang, a film, television and commercial actress. Her grandfather was Charles Lang, a famed motion picture cinematographer of movies like Some Like It Hot and The Magnificent Seven. At age 13 the death of Katherine's father added to the typical adolescent pressures a teenager goes though and left an emptiness in her. When Lang started her senior year of high school, her mother moved the family from Northern California to LA. There she attended legendary Beverly Hills High School.

She always wanted to be a jockey and trained for the Olympics. She never thought of acting as a career choice though acting was in her blood and she had the typical Californian kind of blonde beauty. In high school, Katherine was very insecure. She couldn't even get up in front of the class and do a speech. What finally changed her was when she got a small part in a film called Skate Town, USA shortly after she graduated. Cast as the sister of the main character, played by Patrick Swayze (who would later star in Dirty Dancing), Katherine still found herself lip-locked. The director of the film cut most of her lines out of the film as a result, and it was far from a proud moment for her. Still, it did give Katherine the determination to pursue a career in acting and to get over her fear. She signed with an agent and soon she was appearing on Happy Days, Masquerade, Magnum P.I. and several Last Precinct shows. As she went on more interviews and got more parts, her confidence grew, and she got past her reservations. Katherine also appeared in the Showtime miniseries Training Camp...First and Ten. As well as several guest spots in TV shows like Crazy Like a Fox and Riptide.

Katherine's first taste of daytime came when she was cast as Gretchen, the best friend of Patty Williams, who got to have some scenes as a 'bad girl' opposite Danny Romalotti, played by then teen idol Michael Damian on The Young and the Restless, the other show from B&B creators William and Lee Phillip Bell. That led to her being asked to audition for B&B when Bill Bell started the new soap. She also appeared in Discovery Bay produced by former daytimer Ellen Wheeler and co-starring Tom Eplin (who now plays Jake on As the World Turns). Not one to leave any genre untried, Katherine also starred in a horror film, The Nightstalker, which received very favorable reviews.

Katherine has been featured in the film, Mr. Boogedy, for the Disney Channel, in the feature Til the End of the Night, and in all of the Beach Boys' music videos epitomizing her as the modern California Girl! Katherine guest starred in several episodes of the syndicated series Lonesome Dove, where she played a tough gunslinger determined to avenge her brother's murder. Katherine also appeared in the original Showtime movie Flashframe, co-starring Ian Ziering.

Katherine loves sports and the outdoors. On any given weekend you may find her playing tennis, wind surfing, mountain bike riding or horseback riding. She owns several horses and competes in 25-mile and 50-mile cross-country endurance races. Katherine, at the very special invitation of the Sheik of Qatar, placed third in the International Desert Marathon in 1996. She competes throughout Southern California in races sponsored by the American Federation of Endurance Racing. She also jogs, takes dance classes (ballet and jazz) and studies voice. In her spare time Katherine pursues international modeling and commercial assignments throughout Europe.

Katherine received several Soap Opera Digest nominations, for Outstanding Lead Actress (2003), Outstanding Heroine (2001, 1991), Hottest Soap Couple (with Ronn Moss, Ridge, 1995) and Hottest Female Star (1994, 1993).

Katherine resides in California with her husband Alex D'Andrea, two sons, Jeremy (b.1990) and Julian (b.1992), from her previous marriage to Skott Snider, and daughter Zoe Katrina (with D'Andrea), born on Mother's Day 1997. Jeremy and Julian adore their little sister Zoe. Katherine loves her husband Alex dearly (they wed in Kona in Hawaii in the summer of 1997) who was there for her through the travails of her divorce from her first husband Skott Snider. KKL also have a stepdaughter Danyelle (b.1990) from Alex's first marriage.

In 1997 Katherine almost walked away from the role that has made her famous around the world. While on maternity leave after Zoe's birth, her contract with B&B was due to be renewed. She found herself wondering whether she should stay. She admits to feeling burnt out as Brooke, as well as feeling that her previous contract renewals had been due to managers and friends telling her she would be crazy to leave. With then-fiancee, now husband Alex as her manager, Katherine decided to make a decision for herself, by herself. Initially, she told B&B Executive Producer/head writer Bradley Bell to look for a new Brooke. It looked like Sandra Ferguson (former and current Amanda Cory, Another World (who had been filling in for Lang while she was on leave) might be the new Brooke until the following day. Lang woke up and asked herself "What am I doing?". Realizing that she wanted her job and loved her character, she went to Bell and told him that she had changed her mind and since then, she has fallen in love with Brooke all over again.

Now comfortable with both her home life and her job, Katherine is where she wants to be in life. She's at the top of her game and knows exactly who she is, at ease with herself and with Brooke. And that's just where she wants to stay, giving her all to be the best she can be.
