Vajrayana Buddha and Bodhisattva Images

Zambhala

Vasudhara (Norgyunma)

Also known as Vasudhara, she is the "Tara Who Bestow Prosperity" of the Twenty One Tara  (See the vase on her left hand) . she is the embodiment of abundance. She is represented as yellow in colour, having 2 to 6 arms and wears the regalia of a Bodhisattva. On her head is a crown that bears an image of either Askhobhya or Ratnasambhava. In the 2 arms form, the left hand bears a vase overflowing with jewels with ears of corn and the right is in the blessing mudra. She is the consort of Red Zambhala and Green Zambhala. In Nepalese form, she is sometimes depicted in white, holds a bow and arrow, spike of grain and 3 peacock feathers.

In the legends of Buddha's life, she was the Earth Goddess who emerged to bear witness to Buddha's having done wholesome deeds in the past to merit sitting under the bodhi tree. Wringing her long hair, he created a great flood that washed away Mara and his demon host. Hence, Vasudhara is not only the Mother Earth with all its richness and riches, but also represent our own mind and spirituality.

According to Ven. Tenga Rinpoche " Norgyunma, Sarasvati, Kurukulle and Namgyalma are the Twenty One Taras Families"
