A Water Cyclone
                    By:  Shannon

Surf's up, dude!  Well, maybe you wouldn't want to catch this wave, it could break your board in half as fast as a cheetah in the mighty jungle.  It is called a hurricane.
There were some really bad hurricanes.  Now let me inform you that you do not want to be in these hurricanes.  Camille, Andrew, Donna, Carla (and this year Katrina is going to be added to the list) were so bad that they are called no named hurricanes.  Those names will never be used again.  Just talking about them scares me.
Let's move on.  If you need to leave your pet behind to evacuate, this is what to do.  Lock your pet in a room with no glass, make sure that there is pure air that your animal can breathe, leave a bowl of water and a faucet dripping.  Leave the full bag open of their food.
But enough about that.  This is what you need to pack if you need to evacuate.  At least four gallons of water, some cups to hold water, lots of food, warm clothes, and something for your pet like a toy and that shoud be enough.
Who names the hurricanes?  They make a long list of hurricane names for every year.  They use the list of names for another year too.  For example, the 2005 list of names will be used again in 2011 except for hurricane Katrina and Rita because they were bad hurricanes.  Maybe even your name might be on the list of hurricane names.  So whenever a hurricane comes knocking at your door, do not let him/her in-they are not polite guests!
                  Gigantic Storms
                     By:  Giancarlo
Boom! Bam! Crack!  I have to tell you about the evil, wicked storms called hurricanes.  WAA-Bam! OH NO!  The hurricane is at shore!
Hurricanes are big trouble in towns and cities.  Here's how they start.  Hurricanes always start over tropical oceans.  They mostly form in the summers.  The bad storms form when energy from the sun heats ocean water near the equator.  The warmer air pushes up through the cooler air.  The wind begins to spin around the small proessure area.  And it grows and grows.  Boy, I sure don't want to see this happen.
People get hurricane warnings when there is one coming.  Meteorologists listen to coordinates given by their television.  They print out tracking maps.  What you can do at home is that you can go on line to http://www.nhc.noaa.gov for the latest longitude and latitude locations.  People called Hurricane Hunters fly into the hurricane to take measurements.  All this warns the city.
Hurricanes hit land hard and tear down lots of people's homes.  The season of hurricanes is through June and November.  Hurricanes can go 75 miles per hour or sometimes faster.  The speeds can go greater than 150 mph.
I really do feel bad for the people that had to leave their homes and lost their lives.  So hurricanes are bad to be around.

               Powerful Storms
                    By:  Zach
Whoa!  Thump!  That was a wicked hurricane that passed by.  Can we stop them?  They tried in the 1960s and said it was impossible.  Why are these heavy storms so powerful?  High winds over 74 mph creates hurricanes.  It has to have water that is at least 81 degrees F. to form.  Has a Z name occurred?  They don't use q, z, y, v, u, or x letters at the beginning of the names.  That is some basic things you need to know about hurricanes.
            A Turbulent Nightmare!
                      By:  Elena

Beep, beep, beep, beep,beep.
"Come in radar, come in, this is Elena, come in."
"  This is Alex, Elena."
"  Oh good, listen Alex, you're going to be hit by Ginger."
"No girl is going to hit me."
" No, you don't understand, it's a hurricane!"
"Then why did you say Ginger?"
"Weather reporters use names so that storms aren't confused."
"Oh."
"Then get your people out of there.  This is going to be one big ride!"
Puouchchsh!!
"Alex, Alex, he's gone!"
I chose Ginger because she held the  record for the longest hurricane which was 29 days.  This hurricane was in the Atlantic Ocean.  Ginger's damage cost around 10 million bucks.
"This is Elena, remember it.  Oh, one more thing too, wait....."
Phchchshch!!
"Elena, Elena, come in.  This is Alex."
"Alex, is that you?  Oh, thank goodness, you're alive.  This was one turbulent nightmare!"
             Disgraceful Hurricanes
                       By:  Althia
     Kaboom!  Whoosh! Bang!  Crash!
Hello, the reason I'm talking to you is because there is a forceful storm called a hurricane and it's too powerful.  It'll knock you over.  So come along and I'lll tell you about this horrible storm.
When warnings are given, why don't some people leave/  Many people didn't abandon the town because some of them are crazy thrill seekers or didn't have a car.  Some people didn't evacuate because they didn't want to go without their perfect pets.  In hurricane Katrina many people were still there with no car.  The people who didn't leave got a little package with food and coffee for adults.  Katrina made a lot of the elderly and young adults lose their jobs and the elders lost their senior homes.
How do hurricanes form?  Hurricanes form over tropical oceans worldwide.  Sometimes they usually form in the summers of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. First, for it to start, you have to have high pressure high and low pressure sink down.  Next, thunderclouds must form!  Then wind rotates into a circle.  After that, the eye wall covers the eye.  The hurricane's eye is where it's fine and perfect weather.  Its powerful winds help it move across the ocean.  Once it hits land it'll flood the whole town.                 Whoo, thank goodness she's over!  We thought our town would never stand up through this nasty storm!
