Harini Narayanan about "Taste the World" and Fair Trade

"Well to start with it is a great opportunity and first experience for me as I have never been abroad. I’m thankful to my organization Gandhi Rural Rehabilitation Center - GRRC for sending me and to the organizers of “Taste the World” for inviting me.

By undertaking this trip I hope to share the immense experience and insight acquired by my organization in the area of Fair Trade. I hope to share good will and deepen my understanding of the concept of fair trade and exchange customs and practices of both India and Malta. I wish my trip to Malta to be the first step in a lasting relationship for many years to come."

"Even though my experience with fair trade is limited, meaningful interactions with the weavers, tailors and embroiders of my organization have revealed much more than I could hope to learn by reading articles and journals. I have come to understand the benefits that fair trade has extended to the GRRC producer group. The underlying values and beliefs of this Alternate trade practice has brought the producers and buyers to an equal platform where there is no hierarchy. Fair Trade and fair price have made a difference in the lives of many in the village where GRRC is located."
