Research Paper:
I would like to explore the Native American struggle to live in and balance two worlds, the world of the white man, and the traditional Indian world.  This issue is a common topic in Native American literature.  Thus, I would like to use a work in this category, such as Momaday’s House Made of Dawn or Welch’s Winter in the Blood as a primary source in the investigation.  I would analyze how the author represents this struggle for balance and supplement this analysis with other sources on the subject.  To fully prepare the audience for a discussion of this struggle, I feel that a definition of the term ‘Native American’ must be constructed and a portion of the paper devoted to the this definition or question of identity.  As stated earlier, this topic is a common one, as evidenced by the number of works relating to it, such as Surviving in Two Worlds or Fugitive Poses.   However, I believe it is still a worthy subject, as the issue of struggle and identity is ongoing and unresolved.
