A fortune cookie

It had been a prayer of both of us since we were married that we would have children. The bible says to wait on the lord and that is hard for us to do sometimes. Kenneth had made requests for years that God would give him a wife and family. That had always been his desire to have children.

My prayer was always that God would bless us with a child and that they would grow up to be a worker for the lord and bring his name honor and glory. As I said yesterday we had to wait three years for our first child. All of a sudden I had to have emergency surgery on a cyst on my ovary and right after that is when I got pregnant.

Three years of home tests and disappointments. God works in his own time. He makes no mistakes. He knows what is best for us. He promises to give us the desires of our hearts. It was heartbreaking before we had children. I always felt there was something wrong with me. I felt maybe someday that Ken would regret marrying me because of it. But he wouldn't have. We humans have our pity parties though, you know.

God has a sense of humor and he is so clever. I had taken so many tests that I was reluctant to take another one even when I was late, Ken and I were just killing time that weekend and we went to a food show.. where you can sample food from different restaurants or companies.. get free samples.. you may have been to one. While walking around there was a huge table full of fortune cookies from a Chinese Restaurant. I had never tried a fortune cookie and was kind of curios so I took one and broke it open. it read "Children's laughter to beautiful to hear.. soon will be a chance to have them very near. I showed it to Ken and it was one of those feelings again that I have sometimes like ..you sense God is speaking to you" this is more than just a fortune cookie" I kept the little slip of paper. I took a home test that Sunday and it was positive for the first time ever. I went to the Dr. to quick they couldn't even tell for sure. The Dr. said don't get your hopes up. Ken didn't believe I was. I was mad at them both.

I already knew because of that little feeling that you know is coming from God you get to recognize it when you are his. The bible says "my sheep know my voice and a stranger they will not follow" I went back about four weeks later with ken and there was the heartbeat on the ultrasound. I have Caleb's ultrasound picture in an album with a little slip of paper from a fortune cookie at the bottom of the picture "children's laughter to beautiful to hear, soon will be a chance to have them very near. Caleb was born in thefollowing year. We named him Caleb Daniel after two great men of faith in the scriptures.

Then Joshua was born three years later. Remember the story of Caleb and Joshua in the bible? The two faithful witnesses? We named Joshua after Joshua in the bible and his middle name is Shade after Ken's grandfather who was a Baptist preacher. So they are my answered prayers. They are a gift from God. Just as he has given me so many wonderful gifts in my life. He wants to give you wonderful gifts in your life to. He cares about you. Wonderful marvelous things he has done. Praise his holy name.!
