A bountiful harvest

A Thanksgiving devotional by Karen Brooks.

Psalms 126:6
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
**
What a blessed time harvest time is. If we have worked and toiled in the field doing all that we can to promote life and growth, what a blessing it is to see the results of our labours.

We as God's children are to be workers in the field. The precious seed that we are to sow is the word of God. Just as in a natural birth that brings forth life , there is toiling and anguish. There is much pain and sorrow but when the birth takes place all that is forgotten and replaced with joy. The same with laboring in the field, there is much hard work. It takes constant care of the worker to promote the health and growth of the seedlings. When a seed is planted in a garden it takes a lot of tending by the gardener. One must first prepare the sod, then plant the seeds, spreading fertilizer and watering then daily watching over the plants to see that the weeds don't crowd in to choke them, to keep bugs and rodents away that will damage or destroy the crop. Sometimes if a plant gets heavy it tends to bend over toward the ground and will have to be staked , bracing it to help it stand upright.

All of these things one must also do spiritually in the harvest field of this world. We must be sowers of the seed but we too must tend it and try to cultivate it not just leave it and abandon it. What kind of crop could we expect if we did this naturally?

We wouldn't have a crop would we? Have we watered the seeds we are sowing with our tears? Have we cultivated the seed with our prayers for a fruitful harvest? When we see one struggling do we try to help lift them up?

Are we tending to what we plant? We must do this if we are to reap the sheaves. The above scripture is plain and clear. We have a promise if we go forth sowing with tears that we will reap with joy. In other words, There will be some fruits from our labours. It is important that we all be seed sowers. But it is just as important that we tend to what is planted.

May God bless you this day is my prayer. May your fruits be many and may your joy be full.

Abound with blessings

Proverbs 28:20

A faithful man shall abound with blessings:but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

In today's busy world we sometimes find ourselves hurrying about the wrong things. It is necessary for us to provide for our household but we must be careful not to get caught up or carried away with the desire to have Earthly wealth and riches.

Jesus wrote if we would first seek the Kingdom of God and the righteousness of God that all these other things we need would be added unto us.

Maybe not all we want but what we need. What is most important is that we not be rich in this world but rich toward God. Rich enough to be able to give to the spiritual poor among us; The lost.

Some people want to abound in riches or earthly possesions but the bible teaches us not to lay up for ourselves treasures upon this earth where moth and rust can corrupt or thieves can break through and steal but for us to lay our treasures up in heaven.

One day there was a young rich ruler who came to Jesus and he asked him what he must do to be saved. Jesus told him to sell all that he had and give it to the poor and the young man it said went away sorrowful because he had great riches. We don't have to be in a certain income bracket to be saved but Jesus knew that this man's riches meant more to him than pursuing his own soul's salvation.

A lost person must be willing to put God first and follow whatever the spirit tells him to do. This rich young ruler just couldn't do that. He had told Jesus that he had kept the commandments but Jesus said "One thing thou lackest".

What would a man profit if he gain the whole world but lose his own soul or what would a man give in exchange for his soul?

If we lack that one precious thing which is salvation through Jesus Christ, we may be a billionare here on Earth but we are poor in that we have nothing to get us from Earth to glory.

These all are just vanity.
Too many times we get lost in today's fast paced world and trying to make enough to have the latest things or to build up a savings account.
Really what we should put our effort toward is what counts.

Our Relationship with God.

This verse says A faithful man will abound with blessings.
Faithful, whether man or woman. Faithful toward God.

Have you counted your blessings lately?
We are all blessed with so much more than we could ever thank God for.
Let us think more on abounding in the blessings of God instead of the riches of this world.

1st Timothy :6-11

But godliness with contentment is great gain

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, They have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness , faith, love, patience, meekness.
**
Flee these things. They can lead you down the wrong paths. They can steal your joy and rob your faith and service to God and your fellow man.

My Prayer for you is that you will abound in blessings and be rich toward God.

May God richly bless you and keep you in his constant care.

Your sister in Christ,Karen

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus Concerning you.
-
Ist Thessalonians 5:18

Some things are so easy to give thanks for. Our family, our homes, our health or freedom. Other times when things are going rough and in times of despair we tend to fail to give God thanks for the good things.

Our ancestors who first came to this country years ago in search of freedom went through some very desperate times. During that first winter many died. No doubt their hearts grieved for those who had passed away but they didn't forget who had been there through these hard times and helped them to keep going. They wanted to give thanks to God.

The native Indians had helped our forefathers (The pilgrims) learn to plant crops that would grow and they aided them in many ways. Although they were so different culture wise they still helped each other. The pilgrims wanted to do something special to Honor and thank God for bringing them through this first year and for the first crops they were harvesting.

They invited their indian friends but were surprised when so many came, the pilgrims had not planned on so many guests so the indians pitched in and brought meat and food as well. Our forefathers were a thankful people.

Even though they had suffered loss, sickness, heartaches and homesickness yet they still gave God thanks for the good things.

This is how we came to celebrate what We call Thanksgiving in The United States of America. Each year during the fouth week of November we get together with family and friends to have a meal together and give thanks.

Some people have forgotten what this holiday is all about. It was set aside to give thanks to God and a time to set differences aside to worship together and fellowship.

Any time of the year can be thanksgiving. We should carry that same spirit in our hearts all year around. Putting aside differences and showing our love toward one another and our gratitude toward God.

There is always something we can thank God for, no matter how dim the circumstances or situation. In all things, it says we should give thanks for this is the will of God concerning us.

In the good times and the bad, through the blessings as well as the trials , on the mountains or in the valley's. During sorrow or joy we should always give thanks.

No matter what we can still find reason to give thanks.

I hope that we will all really reflect on this verse this month and carry it with you in your hearts. That you find yourself giving God thanks for all things, not just the good things and that you will feel a deeper appreciation for the example that our forefathers have laid down before us.

I thank God for you all, you are such a blessing and a strength to me!
I thank God for the valley's because they make you stronger to endure hardships and trials and you realize what a friend and help Jesus is to us at those times.

I thank God even in the loss of a loved one that God made a way through his son that we can be reunited with them again.

I am thankful that our savior loved us enough to endure the cross so that we could be saved, although it saddens my heart to know the anguish he went through.I give thanks for the resurrection when all that anguish was just a memory never to have to be endured again!

I thank God for heartaches and betrayal because it is then I am reminded of the one whom I can always depend on who has never failed me and he helps to heal the hurt and help me move on.

I thank God for the clouds and rains of life for without them the rainbows would never come and life would not flourish.

Even in times of sickness I can always give thanks because it could always be worse.

We have so much to thank God for!

In all things Give thanks!

I TIMOTHY CHAPTER 2

1  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

We have been focusing this week on giving thanks. We have read how that we should give thanks for all things for this is the will of our father concerning us. Today we read how we should give thanks for all men and to pray for them, even those who rule or have authority over us.

In our country we do not have a king but we have a president and a senate and congress. In our states we have governors and elected officials such as Mayors and commissioners, etc..

Oh that all these offices were ran by men who followed God's leadership.
In our day today, alot of times, this is not the case.
Sometimes we feel our authorities really take advantage of the people and some of them really do. This gets us aggravated. We want to tend to really start fussing and putting them down and I have to admit I have been guilty of doing this myself before but we must try to stop and remember what is God's will?

We must pray for them. Whether they were who we voted for or not. We have an obligation to do that. It is important that we do that so that we can live more peaceably among men and honor God. In our country today there is little peace.

It's easy to put the blame on our elected officials but what about ourselves? Have we really prayed for that official? Do we daily or on a regular basis take our leaders to God in prayer?

Most of the times, they are not mentioned. Am I right?
We must stop pushing blame here and there , even though we may not like what a person stands for or against, prayer can make a difference. Prayer can change hearts. Prayer can change laws.. Prayer with just the faith of a mustard seed can move mountains.

I urge you all to really take this scripture to heart today. God did not inspire it to be recorded for nothing, he meant for us to apply it to our lives.

We all have a duty to do. Yes, sometimes our government officials or state or county elected will fail and sometimes they will make wrong dicisions. They are the same as us, Human. Not without sins or temptations.
What we need to focus on is not others failures but our own.

No matter who runs the country, state or senate we have an obligation to really pray for that person. Have you heard people put down someone of the opposite party of which they are for? Of course you have! Some speak with such hatred in their hearts! How can I believe that person has prayed for that official? I can't. I am talking about so called Christian people really speaking with hatred and malice about certain politicians.

Friends this is the wrong spirit to have. We must pray for them.This is the will of God for us. It's not his will that any should perish no matter what party they are of or represent or what they vote for. Read the above scripture again and again. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

The bible does not say for us to speak about anyone with hatred in our hearts but it says to give thanks for all men. We have had some leaders that it's been hard to be thankful for at times but still, no matter what their failures we are to give thanks for them and make supplication for them.
