The Amadaun
The word amadaun has its roots in the Gaelic word for 'fool,' and was often used in reffering to court jesters. But the Amadaun of legend was a far cry from what we now think of as a fool. In the court of the Sidhe- or Fae, faeries, little Folk, etc.- the Amadaun was an important figure. Close advisor to the Queen, Rider, and very very powerful. Legend has it that the Amadaun could kill a mortal with a single word; or even a thought. To mortals the Amadaun was generally benevolent, but people were wary of him because he was known to be unpredictable, with a strange sense of humor.
