I set out to do that which I had to.

I had my reasons and I had my goals.

All that had lied ahead I did not know,

And I had to leave behind many souls.

Amidst my absence their lives had progressed.

I thought that I was still among their kind,

But values changed and our bonds had been stressed,

For that which I had had I now so pined.

I looked for the path to the days of old,

But alas fond memories had faded,

And distant dreams I could no longer hold,

Since destiny cannot be evaded.

For the world is neither simple nor tame,
