Death:
Where Will You Spend Eternity?
|
April 28,
2006
A very dear friend and
co-worker passed away yesterday unexpectedly from a heart
attack he was 43 years old. This has really affected alot of
people here at work because he was such a kind and gentle
person......I will miss him greatly. Please keep his family
in your prayers and ask that God give them comfort.
When I heard the news, I
started thinking about his salvation. And I know that he was
saved and that I will see him again when death comes to my
door or if Christ returns first. It is with this in mind that
I wanted to share some additional thoughts on the impact death
has to friends and to loved ones. As Christians, we gain when
we die. But the lost and unsaved have no joy.
Revelation 22:18-20
tells us:
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was
cast into the lake of fire.”
We make decisions everyday - what to wear, what to
eat, what to say, how to act. But the most important decision
that a person must make is the decision that determines
eternal destiny. There are many theories, if you will, about
what happens when a person dies. Many theories hold the belief
that re-incarnation is the next phase in the after-life. Still
others believe that once a person dies, there is no hope -
death is final.
But what does the Bible say about death?
1. Death to the
unbeliever is eternal separation from God (and that's a bed of
roses compared to what awaits the unbeliever).
“And I saw a great white
throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and
the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the
books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the
book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works. And
the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell
delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged
every man according to their works. And death and hell were
cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And
whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast
into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 22:18-20
Death is just as real as you are sitting in front
of your computer. Death, though, has been conquered through
the power of the Lord Jesus Christ if you believe. If you are
unsaved and you die in your sleep tonight, your heart will
have probably stopped and you will have stopped breathing. It
will be a virtually pain-free death. But that will start the
beginning of your eternal separation from God. You will die
again. This second death will not be pain-free. It will be
pain like you've never imagined.
2. Death to a Christian
is the beginning of an eternity with God!
“And as it is appointed unto
men once to die, but after this the judgment. So Christ was
once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look
for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto
salvation.”
Hebrews
9:27
Those who have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior
will find these verses to be joyous. Those who have rejected
Christ get just a glimpse of their fate when the second death
will come and they stand at the Great White Throne, pleading
for one last chance to redeem the time given to them by God.
“Beyond the grave, beyond death, beyond this life,
beyond the cold lifeless body left behind, there is indeed an
eternal life with Jesus Christ for those who have trusted Him
as their Savior” - Clarence Sexton.
Man must realize that death is inevitable and must
be experienced by every man - there is no 're-incarnation' and
coming back to this earth as another creature. There is no 'cryogenesis'
and hopes that science can bring one back to life hundreds of
years from now. God gives man the breath of life and God will
eventually take away the very breath he gave.
People often talk about seeing loved ones again in
heaven, but if loved ones aren't saved, and you are, then you
will never see them again. The Bible is very clear about this.
What line will you or your loved ones be in? Make sure that
you and your loved ones and
your friends know Jesus as their Savior.
Today may be there last opportunity to hear the
Gospel....................
