ABOUT ME
My roots:  I grew up on a cattle ranch near Mullen,  Nebraska, deep in the heart of the beautiful  and unique area known as the Sandhills.
The picture above was taken just east of Mullen on Highway 2, overlooking the Middle Loup River valley.
I'm looking forward to going back to my 30th class reunion this June. Do you suppose everybody got fat and gray, or was it just me?
GO BRONCOS!
I always wanted to be a teacher, and when I graduated from Mullen High School in 1976, the exciting new field of special education appealed to me.
In 1979, I obtained my degree in special education from Kearney State College, now the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
I now live in Creighton, located in northeast Nebraska, another beautiful part of the state. I am lucky to live near the Niobrara River (pictured), the Missouri River, and Lewis and Clark Lake. My family and I live in a great old Victorian house built in the 1880's (pictures soon).
I  teach special education in the lovely town of Verdigre, about 15 miles northwest of Creighton. I don't mind the commute--with such a beautiful drive, I can't possible get to work in a bad mood! I work  with students of all ages with a variety of  disabilities, and enjoy every minute of it (except for the paperwork)! For more about how I spend my days, check out my school website.
Verdigre is a wonderful and unique town. Verdigre's citizens are very proud of their Czech heritage. I really enjoy Kolach Days celebration in Verdigre each June, featuring lots of polka music, a carnival, and kolaches (delicious Czech pastries).
The Verdigre area is also home to a small colony of Amish families. We occasionally see them travelling in horse and buggy, truly a charming picture.  In addition to farming, they do various jobs in town. They also bake and sell wonderful baked goods--you should try the blackberry pie! These friendly, hard-working people are a great addition to this community.
But wait...wasn't I the lady wearing that funny white collar on the Home Page? So how did I go from teaching to preaching? I'm working on a page to explain that, and I'll link to it as soon as it's done.
The song is called Voice in the Wind, written by Rhesa Siregar and Paul Gentry from a band called Azimuth.
