"The Four Seasons of Christmas"       1980's

Christmas as I recall,
When I was oh so very small.
The tree, the flickering lights,
Towered above me to magnificent heights.
It was such a joy,
The family gathering, the presents,
And each year, that special toy.

Christmas through the teen years,
They flash by in a blur.
Sitting with a smile on your face,
In the arms of your love
Thinking of and thanking heaven above.
It is of who got what for who,
What you got from who,
And what he got for her.

Christmas as parents,
The hassles they go though.
Will the money hold out?
Everyone needs something new.
And glad when it's over,
The peace and quiet.
No more kids, no more winter.

Christmas as grandparents,
The tree, the flickering lights.
It is such a joy, the family gathering,
The gifts, and each year,
For each grandchild, that special toy
      "Ireland"             1987-8

  Ireland, Ireland, land of green,
Where horses graze in the spring.
With beautiful rivers and shining cities.
  Ireland, the Emerald Isle,
Where shamrocks grow in the wild.
  With whitewashed cottages and
Straw roofs that seem to gleam.
Where Irish children love to sing.
Ireland with its forty shades of green.
Green of the sea, green of the emeralds
Green of the green mountains and grass.
Green of Dublin's green filled fields.
Erie, the land of fairy tales,
Of leprechauns who sleep and do magic
  In bent old thorn trees,
While the sun shines bright on Loch Lomand.
     "My Friends"   1988

I watch my friends,
I listen to my friends.
I hear what they say,
I see just what they do.
     My friends.

Sometimes they do good deeds,
Sometimes that is just not so.
Sometimes we are just a little bad,
Sometimes they hurt.
      My friends.

At times we talk back to mom and dad,
"Don't talk back," they say,
But we never mean it,
       My friends and I.

My friends and I dress the same,
Act the same, and think the same,
Once in a while.
But one may have a sad face,
The other a smile.

Each day we grow,
Each day is different.
Each day I say "Hello," to my friends,
And they to me,
       My friends.
