K.J FINALLY GOT TO COME HOME ON OCT.30 2003....HE RETURNED HOME ON 1 LITRE OF OXYGEN. WE ARE HOPING TO BE WEANED OFF THE OXYGEN IN A FEW WEEKS.....K.J IS DOING REALLY GREAT AFTER HAVING THE FONTAN SURGERY AND A STROKE. TO LOOK AT HIM NOW YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THAT HE HAS HAD A STROKE...WE THE FAMILY WISH TO THANK THE OUT STANDING STAFF AT UNC, CHAPEL HILL....GOD BLESS YOU ALL

K.J celebrated his 2nd birthday on May 2nd with family and friends with Elmo theme. K.J received lots of goodies. K.J had his heart cath in July to check out things for his fontan surgery and see if he was ready for it. He was scheduled for the fontan on July 30 of 2003. He stayed well till the day before pre-op and developed a cough. His surgery was postponed. He was taken to the doctor for a check-up in late august to see if everything was ready once again for the fontan to be rescheduled. Surgery was scheduled for Sept.2nd.....K.J was taken in around 7:30 am on the 2nd day of Sept, around 1:30p.m we got 1st call that he was almost out of surgery and it was going well. At about 2 pm Dr Mills came around to let us know that surgery went well and he was doing fine. What a sigh of relief, it was over. K.J did fine and was off all breathing support by the time he was moved to PICU. On the day after K.J kept improving. On the second day after his surgery came complications .K.J had a stroke. It affected his left side. Well we knew this was nothing to big for God to handle. We called all of our prayer teams and ask for a prayer line to be started. Many days went by and we knew that God was our only strength. The stroke cause K.J to start having seizures. So he was given another new med. We knew after a few days past that God was hearing our prayers and K.J was showing signs of improvement .He was in PICU for 3 weeks after surgery. Finally got to graduate to the floor. (with the seizures sometimes you could not see the signs, only when an EEG was being done). K.J is now in therapy to get back to where he was before the stroke, he is a very strong and loving little boy. With the chest tubes he has had the left one in twice and the second time he got cirothorax. Finally we got that one healed and now the right is in for the 3rd time and now has cirothorax again........But K.J is still fighting strong.
Quilts of love made a beautiful quilt block for K.J. It can be seen at http://quiltsoflove.com/quilt/kurtH/KJ-kurtH.html it is so beautiful.
K.J is still in the hospital recovering, he is going to be a big brother soon. There will be a little sister added to the family .She is due in December, K.J is very excited about it.
