***Updated 12th April:  Scottish ladies Game

Scotland 0 - Wales 7

A near full house in the paisley rink saw the first ever ice hockey
meeting between Scotland and Wales. Wales were given a warm welcome
by the SIHA and a match much tougher than the 0-7 scoreline suggests.

Full stats to follow, goal scorers were:

Heather Brunning (Bracknell) 3
Bethan Williams (Cardiff) 1
Sophie Lawton (Kingston) 1
Elaine Langford (Cardiff) 1
Ami Merrick (Cardiff) 1

Emma Hayman (Cardiff) recorded an international shut out.

Details will be posted at www.teamwalesicehockey.co.uk

(Scotland m.o.m. Gemma Watt)

Comment from assistant GB ladies coach Jo Abbs, who attended the game.

"I was impressed with the spirit that Scotland showed in what was a well
fought match. Emma Hayman was outstanding in the Wales net & positionally,
you couldn't fault them. Scotland worked hard and at one point were camped
out in the Welsh end for a while but were unlucky.

There has been a lot of work already with Wales - Mike & Brian have had a
lot longer to work with them & get systems into play - they've been together
at least 5 years? Scotland have been together for 5 months & show a great
deal of enthusiasm at the highest level - give them a little longer &
they'll be upsetting a few people"

I feel that the hard work already put in place by Stuart and Jenny Wilson,
along with the coach Colette Cowie will come to fruition - Scotland has
a lot of talent up there and another way they can improve is by being
allowed to continue training and playing.  Unfortunately, at the moment, it
is only England and Wales that have the facility for club level practice -
once the girls in Scotland get past U19, they have only rec available to
them (if they are lucky enough to get a team to accept them) or to travel to
England for women's hockey.  This should be addressed sooner rather than
later, to bring on the new players and give the more experienced ones
something to aim for.

I will be keeping an eye on the Scottish ladies - if they can play with the
heart and passion that they displayed at the weekend against an incredibly
strong Welsh team, then they will certainly suprise a few people in a short
amount of time!

Good luck Scotland and I look forward to watching you play again! "

LADIES HOCKEY UPDATE 18 DEC

The SIHA are very pleased and encouraged with the progress being made with the formation of the Ladies Training Sessions as a further 10 joined the Group for the latest Session.

The newly formed Ladies Team played their first game on Sunday night at the Magnum against the Ayr Lions Recreational Team resulting in a 4-2 scoreline to the Lions playing in their first ever game and with ages ranging from 12 to 30 performed very well and gave a good account of themselves coming back from 4-0 with two late goals.

It was a very encouraging display especially from both the young Ladies in the Nets and the trio of twelve year olds who showed some good skills and certainly a lot of determination as Gordon Pirry the Lions player coach said afterwards they don't take any prisoners do they.

Prior to the game Stuart Wilson and Colette Cowie put the rest of the ladies who were not involved in the game through an hour and a half training session.

A further Training Sesson and games will be arranged in January please keep looking on the website for further details of the date which will also be at the Magnum.

For all new enquiries please contact Jenny Wilson
