Rappelling & Caving for Cave Exploring
April 16 (Sunday): Sunderland "Toaster Slot" Cave

Leaving Boston in rain let me wonder what I was getting myself into. Luckily coming up to Wachusett Village Inn the rain stopped. The rest of the day the weather was perfect. Not too much sun which is good when you are trying to climb up just using "prusiks" and the rope.
There were three instructors and five participants. This meant we got excellent follow-up from the instructors and got to know the other guys.

First we were introduced to the cave and caving in general. We learned that the cave we were going to, really isn't a cave. But it worked for us. After a 45 minutes drive and a 15 minute walk we arrived at the cave. Next to the cave was an excellent location to practice rappelling. But first we checked out the cave, tried some crawling, looked at the bats and got some feeling what a cave can be like.
Then we were introduced to rappelling and climbing up on a rope using "prusiks".
