Diane woke up to find herself naked in someone else's bed with someone
else. He was laying on his stomach so she couldn't see his face but only
his back, his beautiful black hair and the sheet. Then the events of the
previous night came back to her in a rush and she realized that it was
Denby next to her.
She sat up and looked around the room. Yes, she was in his apartment,
yes she was in his bed and yes she did have sex with him the night before.
At first she was ashamed of herself, but thought about all of the things
that had happened: the car crash, the apology, the dinner, his wonderful
body and skills in bed. She relaxed. Then she recalled the words they had
said right before dozing off:
"Diane...I love you."
A pause and much tension radiating from his body.
"I love you more Harrison Denby."
Shit shit shit shit shit. She told Harry Denby that she loved him. Damn.
The thing that was scaring her was that she hadn't lied. She did love
him, more than she would ever care to admit.
A cat was sitting at the edge of the bed. It turned and blinked at her,
it's eyes bored and sleepy. After a minute, it stood up and hopped off
the bed. Diane was left there next to a sleeping Harry, naked and cold.
She felt him stir beside her and she quickly lay back down. He was awake
now though, and noticed her quick movements.
"Diane honey, don't even try to play dead with me."
"I'm sorry. I thought you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you."
"Uh huh."
He turned on his side and ran a hand through her hair.
"Diane, I realize that you're angry at yourself and confused but think
about all that has happened. I love you, you know that. And last night
you told me that you loved me too."
"Yes...I did."
"Was it a lie?"
"No, no, it wasn't."
"Diane, I love you."
"I know, I know." She whispered into the pillow.
"Do you want to go back to sleep or eat or something?"
"Do you have a shower?"
"What do you think?"
"Can I use it?"
"Of course."
"Thank you."
She threw the blankets away from her body and got up. She turned to see
him studying her body like it was a piece of art. She smiled at him and
he grinned back. When she turned her back she noticed in a mirror that he
was looking longingly at her. At somewhat sadly.
A smile spread across her face. She walked to the bathroom and opened the
door and went inside. After closing it she stood and counted to ten. When
she reached it, she opened the door back up to find Harry lying in bed
staring at the ceiling.
"Harry?"
He turned to look at her.
"You wanna join me?"
She rubbed the soapy fluffy rag thing over his chest. She drew it along
in circles, and lines and rows. He was braced against the wall of the
shower, standing beautifully naked, his erection back.
She was aroused as well, the shower and heat and his body magnifying
every little sensation. After she was done washing him she guided him to
the spray of water and rinsed him off, her hands touching where the water
touched. He was getting very aroused, especially when she washed his
thighs and lower stomach.
She giggled a little and muttered 'what the hell' under her breath.
Bending down on to her knees she took him in her mouth.
His hoarse cries of pleasure were making her extremely wet. She ran her
tongue up and down the length of him, stopping and sucking whenever the
urge took her. After five minutes or so of that she stood up.
His eyes were wide open and he was actually sweating. His face was
flushed and heated. She smiled innocently at him and he growled like a
wolf and grabbed her up in a kiss.
When he entered her she gasped. Grabbing him by the hips she urged him
forward, and it was hard doing this standing up so Harry reached to turn
the water off and leave for the bedroom but she stopped him.
"Harry no, it feels really nice...ohhh..."
He just grinned at her and they made love for the second time.
She sighed and flipped over to bury her face in the pillow. He ran his
hand soothingly down her back.
Diane was really jittery when she got to the station. Andy noticed and
questioned her about it. She had told him about the dinner date with
Harry the other day and he assumed that Harry had hurt her feelings or
pissed her off.
"Look, Andy, thank you for watching out for me, but it's not Harry. "
Well, yes, it was, but not in the way they thought. "I'm just really
tired and worn out, that's all."
John Irvin leaned forward to study her.
"Well, all I know is," he said smiling at her. "Somebody had sex last
night. And sex they enjoyed too."
Diane's face had never turned redder. Sipowicz leaned even closer to her,
and after he thought about who she had been with last night, his face
clouded over with what looked like rage. But before he could comment,
Baldwin and Greg came in the room, discussing a suspect they had cornered
earlier that morning.
"Yeah Jones, I agree with you. The guy is a total ass hole, but I don't
think he killed anybody."
"Jesus Greg, just because the guy was a cop you put him in moral dignity
pants. They guy killed his wife, the nonchalance was evidence enough."
Baldwin threw his cup in the garbage can. It was then that Greg and
Baldwin noticed her.
"Hey Diane," Jones said, approaching her, "Bad news. You remember that
ass from Narcotics? Harry Denby or something or another?"
"Yeah? What about him?" Diane's voice was shaking but Baldwin didn't seem
to notice.
"Well, Danny got a call, and it seems that they're moving him over here.
Looks like you got a new partner. I'm sorry."
Diane offered him a weak smile. Jesus, just as she was getting used to
the fact that she and Denby were going to have a relationship this
happens...
"It's okay. I kinda got used to the prick."
"I'll say," Andy muttered under his breath. Diane shot him a warning
glance. She didn't want any more people to know about this yet.
"Well, he's coming over in..."
"10 or so minutes," finished Danny, breezing through the door. "I just
got off the phone with him. Diane, I'm sorry but he's your new partner.
Ask Jones to fill you in on this next guy, Larry Wills. I can't grill
him, but if you could, do you think you and Harry will?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Hey," Andy moved over to her, his anger apparently soothed for the
moment. But there would be a lecture coming on later that day for sure.
"You be careful, alright?"
"Of course Andy, why wouldn't I be?"
"It's Denby. I don't want him fucking with more of you then he did last
night."
Harry drove to the station nervously. Damn. Just what he needed. The only
good thing about this was that he got to see Diane on a regular basis.
But after their encounter that last night and morning, he was extremely
hesitant. She had told him she loved him and vice versa, but just
everything seemed almost too fast.
He pulled up and took a deep breath. Imagine, Harrison Denby nervous. It
made him laugh out loud. Noticing Danny Sorenson standing outside of the
building, he smiled and waved. Shit, these people hated him. Well, he did
behave like an ass to them. Course that was when he was a drunk. They
could understand that, couldn't they?
When he got out of the rental car, he saw Sipowicz come out of the front
door, his hands on his hips. Damn damn damn damn damn. Body language said
a lot about how one person felt about the other.
He walked to the front door and nodded at them all in greeting. Danny
said hi, and Andy grunted. As soon as Harry walked in, he created an
almost deafening silence in the room.
When he saw Diane, his heart slowed and his breathing came out much more
steady. As he made his way over to her, he could have sworn he saw John
Irvin wink at him.
Diane led him to the lockers. No one followed them, and thank God for
that. When she closed the door behind him, he smiled at her. She didn't
return it.
"Denby," Diane's voice was hushed, "Andy and John know about us. Now, I
don't think they're going to say anything. I don't want anyone else to
know about us...yet. Okay? This is going to be hard enough as it is."
"I...alright. I can't really argue with that. But I can brag to my new
partner about this wonderful girl I found who is just incredible in bed
so she can become jealous?"
She did smile at that. She walked to him and lay her head down on his
chest. He secured his arms around her and kissed the top of her hair.
After a moment of rocking her back and forth in his arms, she stood up
and held his face between her hands.
He stared into her beautiful eyes and almost closed them from the strain
of so much beauty. Damn he was becoming poetic now.
He couldn't think about that much more because her mouth was on his and
was trying her damndest to get him as close as humanly possible to her.
He wanted to rip the clothes off of her body and taker her there, but
didn't. Instead he kissed her deeper.
When they broke apart she whispered that she loved him and they came out
of the room to face the world again.
