I guess this means I should
probably tell you a bit about myself, hum?
I spend most of my time working as a teacher of some sort or other. At various moments, I may be teaching ESL courses to adults, participating in ESL courses at the local school districts, teaching Religious Studies and Native American History, Sociology, and Linguistic classes at any of several colleges, or teaching some "new age" courses here and there. I love to teach, it's just had to make a living at. So, I also put in time working on legal research as a temp. Yippi!
I've several degrees to my name, including one in Philosophy, a minor in English Linguistic studies, a master's in Native Religion, and part of my PhD in Lakota studies. (Language, religion, mythology, etc). I just presented a paper on the
concept of translation in
religious texts, specificially in connection with Lakota and other Native American
Translations. Sometimes I feel like I'm a step behind the wave, since almost everything I've every thought of has already been addressed by someone. Most recently, Ray DeMallie, who published my PhD paper - just as I was finishing the initial thesis defense. Silly man. :-) His is MUCH better and MUCH more indepth than anything I could have even considered, of course. But it's such a pain to see that someone has already tackled what you are working on.
I'm happily nestled here
right on the edge of the Rockies, where I can spend my time
staring off at beautiful sunsets, spacious skys, fields of grain, purple mountain
Majesties (maybe someone said that already),
hiking around, playing with my cats, and writing and writing and writing. I've wondered, often, if this PhD thing is really worth it.
I love music. All kinds
of music, especially if there is a guitar involved. That said, much of my CD
collection is pop oriented, but
certinaly not all of it. I would list among my favorit bands, Extreme, Bonjovi,
Queen, Prince and of course Jean-Jacques Goldman.
I would list among my favorite composers, Nakita Kushkin, Mozart of course, Beethovan,
John Williams the movie guy.
As for preformers, gotta go with John Williams the guitarist. If you havn't heard of
him, your missing out.
But also, Satch, Vince Guaraldi, the Goddess "Ella", John Coltrane, Paco Deluci
& Al DeMeiola.....
And I LOVE hockey. My team, L'Avalanche, of course... Go AV's
Hope you enjoy,
Kip
