When I was young, my father used to tell me the myth, that chess players are usually good in maths. He would tell me that some of his secondary school classmates, who are good Chinese Chess players, are the ones who scored in maths.
Might be because of his influence, I slowly picked up Chinese Chess as well, and became good enough to represent the University (but got number 8th in the Inter-Varsity team games :P ). I dare to say that my maths is also above average. Well, that might be caused by the tutoring from my mom, who happens to be a maths teacher!
What's the link between Chess and Math, it's Pattern Recognition. In Chess, the rules are simple, but yet the different combinations and possibilities that you can get, are endless. Same goes for Maths, which most of the time, relies on whether you could recognize the Pattern and apply the appropriate formula to solve it.
Well, lastly, I think programming is all about Pattern Recognition as well!
Sometimes, we will face some people, who make things difficult for us. You can argue and argue the whole day with them, and they just won't agree. Well, other than the usual advice:
Let's look at it from a different angle:
So, see it not as a curse to come across idiots in your life, but see it as a blessing, that you are given a chance to improve yourself.
Sometimes, when I can't remember Jack's name, and I was trying to refer to him, I will refer to him as shorty or fatty, if he is short, or fat. Most of the time, Daniel will tell me that its bad to call people such names. Well, I might be lazy, and forgetful, but I am definitely not trying to insult Jack calling him such names. I do not see short or fat people by being inferior, in anyway. If Daniel feels that its insulting to call people using such names, shouldn't him be the one who have to reflect on himself as to why he feels that people who are short and fat are inferior which makes my comment insulting?
If things are supposed to work this way, I would have been proud of myself every time someone commented how tall I am, but I am not.
Remembered that I watch this Singaporean show - Holland Village. Guess most of the people would not have remembered this phrase that one of the characters said: "When you win lottery, you are actually winning your children's and grand children's money".
After hearing that statement, I stopped buying lotteries on that day itself. For I believe, those money that are not supposed to be yours, have to be repaid back in one way or another, if not by you, then it will be your children and grandchildren.
On the other hand, if the money are supposed to be mine, I would earn it, not needing lottery as the medium.
I walk my dog almost everyday, it served as a 20 minutes time period where I can stay away from computers, televisions, and other human beings. Until one day, my mom suddenly told me about this article on the newspaper, saying that nowadays, most people are not actually walking the dog, but they are walked by the dog.
Walking the dog, means that you determine the path, and the speed, and the dog follows; walked by the dog, means the dog determines either one or both the path and the speed.
Well, I think it depends on whats the purpose of walking the dog, for me, it most importantly provides a 20 minutes period to my dog, where she can move around, and breath some fresh air outside the house compound. Just 20 minutes, out of the 23 hours and 40 minutes of her daily life.
So, I choose to be walked, and let her walk me, for its the only 20 minutes of her day that she can have a say of what she wants.
We have all heard of this phrase
And it got applied directly into the concept of Ladies Night, where ladies have free drinks in pubs and discos. The ladies, might not really enjoy the music and atmosphere that much, but because of the free drinks, they will go. The guys, might feel that the drinks and/or cover charges are too expensive, but because there are girls there, they are be willing to pay for it.
Well, it wouldn't have worked the other way round, would it? And that explains why there are no Guys Night. ;^)
Do you believe in reincarnation? Some religions said there is, some said there's no such thing, some did not touch on the topic.
Let's look at the implications of a religion believing in reincarnation. Religions which do not believe, are always asked the hard question "If a baby is born blind, whose sin is it?".
All religions teach that if you do good deeds, you will be rewarded, and if you do bad deeds, you will be punished. So, indirectly meaning that
Well, for reincarnation believers, this is brought up to another level
So, instead of being judged at the end of your life, you are responsible for your future lives. One way or another, it injects fear.
