We walked out onto the Athabasca Glacier which was 300 meters (1000ft) to the deepest point, a kilometer wide (.6 of a mile) x 6 kilometers long (3.7miles);  a small glacier which makes up part of the 201 kilometer (125 sq miles) of the Columbia Icefield, which is an area greater than the city of Vancouver, B.C.
