Hester Stone's birth is not recorded where it should be, but the 1851 census entry showed George and Ann Stone living in Woodfield, Ashtead with their six children, ranging from Emma aged 12 to Hester aged 8 months. Ten years later they were still there, minus the two elder daughters (who could by then have married) and with the addition of another son, William. The 1881 census showed George living alone, except for the youngest son, William.
