BEXLEY, KENT
(A glimpse of the past)

"The parish of Bexley is very extensive being about three miles across each way.
There is great variety of country in it, with frequent hill and dale...  from its size and number
of inhabitants it may well be titled the town of Bexley;  there are many handsome
modern built houses, inhabited by genteel families of fortune."
(Edward Hasted, History of Kent 1797)

Church of St Mary the Virgin, Bexley, c. 1883
The church is mentioned in Domesday Book and there is evidence of the early
twelfth-century architecture in parts of the building.  The church has an unusual shingled roof.
