Today our class visited the Rocky Shore website. We read the wonderful sea poems. These poems inspired us to write and illustrate some of our own.

We are looking forward to studying the rocky shore and visiting it sometime in June.

If you see a rock you know they are real

Mrs Silverman's class learned about horseshoe crabs.

They are so fascinating. It is amazing to see animals that are around today that were here before dinosaurs. Did you know that they are called "Living Fossils?" This is because they were here before the dinosaurs. These horseshoe crabs are so interesting that Mrs Silverman's class decided to interview them.

When Mrs. Silverman went home she couldn't resist a walk to the rocky beach to see these amazing creatures. It is springtime on Long Island, New York, and the horseshoe crabs are mating. These photos were taken at Cordwood Beach, Long Island, New York.

Interviewer: How many babies do you have at one time ?

Horseshoe crab: We have 20,000 babies at once.

Interviewer: What are your enemies?

Horseshoe crab: My enemies are birds , fish and eels.

Interviewer: Where do you hide when your enemies are coming?

Horseshoe crab: We hide in the sea grass.

Interviewer: How do you begin your life ?

Horseshoe crab: We begin our life in darkness.

Interviewer:How long did you live on the earth ?

Horseshoe crab: We lived on the earth for over 300 million years ago.

Interviewer: What do you eat?

Horse shoe crab: Tubeworms, crabs and clams.

Interviewer: What color are you?

Horseshoe Crab: We are light grey and pale green.
