Canon Wi Te Tau Huata
Born 23 September 1917 at Mohaka, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
Died 20 December 1991 in Hastings, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
Father - Hemi Pititi Huata
Mother - Ropine Hinemare Aranui
Brother of Repeka, Etika, Tamahana, TeOkanga, TeAopare, Rawi, TeRanapia and Bruce.
Father of Paraire, Hemi, Tama, Ngatai, Tamaterangi, Hinemanuhiri, TerauAroha, Heke, and Wi.
In 1945 Wi recieved the Military Cross, the 28th Maori Battalion Queen's Service Medal in 1984 and CBE in 1991.
Husband of Ringahora Heni Ngakai Ybelle Tomoana, daughter of Paraire Henare Tomaona and Repeka Kuini Ryland.
This man, to me, must be one of the most respected person in my family tree,  a Maori Anglican Minister, adored by many many New Zealanders, served in World War II, and made a Canon,

Wi attended TeAute Boys College from 1933 to 1930
Ordained Deacon in 1939
Priested in 1941
His father-in-law Paraire Henare Tomoana was a famous song writer, with credits of "Pokarekare Ana" to his name.
In 1943, Wi was sent to war with the 28th Maori Battalion.
Missioner in the King Country District and Diocese of Waikato in 1952 to 1960
Supervisor of the Waikato Maori Mission in 1960 to 1970
Chaiplain to the Bishop and the Hamilton pastorate in 1970 to 1973
Made Canon in 1970 and in the same year made Chaplain to the Maori Queen.
Retired in 1982

Today, the  Huata family are still making a well known name for themselves.  The should be very proud of their ancesty.
