Queenstown
We spent some time in this awesome ski town and self-proclaimed "adventure capital of NZ". Yes indeed, this is where bungee jumping was invented. There's also jet boating, skydiving, parapenting, rafting, and last but certainly not least, extreme mini golf. A veritable adrenaline smorgasbord! We were there during the weeklong Winter Festival that included fireworks, parades, and a Mardi Gras street party. Jill won best "Mask Inspired by 70's Sitcom"! We wined and dined and drank and were merry.

Lake Wakatipu
A view across the lake toward the Remarkables range - home to one of the main skifields in the area.
Looking down from the Coronet skifield carpark. Amazing landscape! You expect to see hobbits and elves running around below.
Jetboat racing on the lake - one of the Festival activities. These boats are crazy! They were invented in NZ. Chris Linkhorn and I went on the Shotover River jetboat ride and were totally freaked out at how close they come to the rocks. Then a week later, one of them crashed!!
The Winter Parade. Kooky and fun. Lots of candy and promotional snacks were thrown out to the crowd. Things got a little out of control when kids started throwing the snacks back at the parade.
This just kind of sums up life in the south. Speights and sheep.
Not many dangerous animals in NZ, but the plants can be wicked. An unexpected hazard in the midst of Queenstown's excellent disk golf course.
Ice sculpture competition at Coronet. Ours is the one on the left
