Fraser Island
The largest sand island in the world and a protected World Heritage Site. This was probably the best stop on the tour. We stayed at a beautiful eco-resort - one of the coolest places we've ever stayed, and charged around the island all day in 4WD's that rumbled and growled over miles of bumpy track. We went swimming in crystal lakes, saw a dingo, floated down a stream, and sang karioke! Fraser Island is one place we definitely did not want to leave so quickly, and it can justify a return to trip to Australia all on its own.

Charging down the beach in these 4WD's -  they like the same cars the British used to explore Africa. Evan didn't get to drive because his name wasn't pulled from the hat. Boo hoo. Notice the 4WD campervan in the distance. Aaron and Catherine rented it and pulled off an incredibly cool surprise by meeting up with us on Fraser, completely unexpected.
Ahh, yes. Karioke!! We got up there and sang 'Summer Days' from Grease to thunderous applause. We wowed 'em. We had to fight off the record producers the rest of the night.
Evan and Aaron spent about 2 straight hours throwing the disk at Lake Mackenzie. This may be the best place to swim and dive around, ever! Warm, crystal clear freshwater and soft, white sand. Could've stayed there all day. This picture shows an unsuccessful attempt to get Catherine wet by having Evan dive for the disk right behind her.
Jill and Catherine take refuge from a so-called rain shower.
A rusty old shipwreck right on the beach. It makes a good photo op but that's about the extent of its excitement. After this picture we went and swam in a stream that carries people about 200m with its strong current. Reminiscent of those 'neverending' rivers in waterslide parks.
Tres cool.
