Damn, we got to hold a koala! Look how cute it is! Can you stand it?! His name is Monty.
A koala in the wild in an eerie gumtree forest on tiny Raymond Island. We walked around this place for a couple hours and saw about six of these little suckers just hanging out, acting stoned.
Munching leaves at the koala reserve.
Grey kangaroos in the wild, just taking it easy.
A cheeky crimson rosella that invaded our campsite at Wilson's Promontory.
Jill pets a very mellow grey roo at the koala reserve.
The goofy looking kookaburra is a symbol of Australia. They sound like hysterical monkeys. A flock of them makes an amusing racket at sundown.
The infamous dingo. Australia's wild dog. We saw this little guy on Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world and home to the purest strain of these animals. Recently, a little boy was killed by a pair of dingoes. Very tragic, but there are signs all over the island warning tourists that dingoes are wild animals and should not be fed, and that children should not be left unattended. But with this death, there is now a call to start slaughtering the dingoes to make Fraser Island safer for tourists. Well, this is an outrageous and knee-jerk political response to an awful situation. But it's the tourists who need to be better educated and better controlled.
