Meetings: Wednesday Noon President: Frank Zajac Program Chair: March: Daphne Wells. Future Mayor publishes Letters to America
You know that someday Rosalind Bivings is going to be mayor of Mountain View. I still remember when she and I were running for city council and we had this group debate in the city council chambers. No one had the guts or the audacity to sit in the mayor’s seat, until Rosalind came along. "May as well get used to it, since I’m going to be soon sitting here all the time." Well, Rosalind has put together a book called "Letters to America." It is just what it sounds like: a bunch of letters to America from Americans who are, generally, frustrated. She spoke about it in our weekly meeting on February 18th . Castro School Visit This Wednesday, February 25, 2004, the Kiwanis club will meet at Castro Elementary school instead of Don Giovanni’s. We hope to learn more about the school we have adopted. The Kiwanis has provided for hundreds of school uniforms for Castro school students, most of whom live under the poverty line. |

Editorial: I have met the ally, and he is "Them"
Vote on march 2nd . Members of this club have provided me with valuable insight into why it is wise to be suspicious of any request for more money from taxpayers. They have also asked me "That’s nice, but what happens to those kids if we cut that program?" I have learned something in the last couple years: Most everyone is darned suspicious of ‘them.’ "They" are always pushing us around. "They" act like they know what they are doing, but they are either stupid, or they are liars. "They" are on the take. Not so. "They" have been working hard, and they are tired. They have tried to make the best of an imperfect situation, and have had to learn that nothing they can do will prevent some harm from coming to pass. They know they will be demonized when that becomes clear to the critics, but they are not going to quit. I keep telling them the same thing about you. They say "Yah, right." But they smile a little when they say that. CLK
