BANGKOK DEEP-SKY OBJECTS OBSERVING
My Website Background:

  • My starting point

  • On 1998 my wife took a telescope from her school to home. I scan the telescope to Brightest star which have 4 tiny dots around it. I didn't know what it was, later I recognized that it was Jupiter when I saw the cloud band on its disk and 4 tiny dots are galilian moons which dancing around Jupiter. Near Jupiter there was second brightest star, I scan to it and found a star with ring, it must be Saturn!.. I take astronomy as a hobby since then.
  • Learning Curve

  • I would like to see at more power but the have no shorter focus eyepiece. Then I order my first telescope from supplier who supplied science equipment to my wife's school. But it took so long time about 3 months. While waiting for them, I studied from web site and down loaded astronomical programs. I observed many constellation with naked eyes and found that limit magnitude is about 4.0. I brought 10 x 50 binoculars before telescope come. With binoculars, the magnitude limit is down to 8.0, I also saw M31, M34 & M45. Eventually my telescope came, it is 4.5" newtonian short tube f8.8, fortunately it was out off collimation, I have to learn from web sites & text books to align the optic..it was very difficult to learn by myself. But when I saw cassini division of saturn's ring & IO's shadow cash on Jupiter, it was good value for my attempt. With telescope 4.5", the magnitude limit is down to 10.4. I brought sky atlas 2000 and starting to hunt deep sky objects..I also brought many text books. It is very funny hobby, I learn many new things including creating of this web page.
  • Objective

  • (1) How many deep sky objects that can be seen from Bangkok with small telescope.
    (2) Observing with classical method i.e. star hopping & sketching. It is cheapest and most effective way to be experienced observer.
    (3) Share experience to others.
