BANGKOK DEEP-SKY OBJECTS OBSERVING

Finder scope alignment:

The accuracy of finder scope alignment is very important for star hopping. Several times the objects at the center point of cross hair can not be seen in the finder scope. It needs accurate finder alignment to ensure the object location.

Procedure:
1 Aim telescope to the bright star
2 Adjust telescope to center the star in eyepiece
3 Adjust thumb screws of finder scope to place crosshair at the star
4 Lock thumb screws and check center at eyepiece again

Note
The good design two rings with six adjustment screws provide more flexibility and accuracy.

My 6x30 finder is single mounting ring with 4 screws. Quite difficult to align, I have to insert some pieces of paper at the base to force it to right position.
