Observing details: This observing session was continue from M105. Aim Telescope to Chertan in Leo, Star 73 and fainter companion also appear in the same FOV of finderscope. Hop from star 73 to two stars mag6.5 (on west) which point to stars 52 & 53. Center at Stars 52 & 53, look for two stars mag7. M96 locates at the approximately right angle corner of triangle comprise of two stars mag7 and position of M96 itself. At eyepiece, it wasn't difficult to get M96 in FOV of eyepiece, then it no needed to confirm by fainter star chart. M96 appeared as faint, round and unstable. This should be only bright nucleus of spiral galaxy. Refer to text: very bright, large, slightly elongated, small bright nucleus, visible dark lanes. Extends 60,000 ly, Hubble class Sbp. The brightest in the Leo galaxy group. Home |
