M79 was my first globular cluster.
My first observation was done on Dec 17, 00 / 00:45. It classified as level 4 (the most difficult objects) in Touring the Universe through Binoculars by Philip S. Harrington.
On my second observing, I recorded star hopping note to ensure I won't loss in space same as the first time.
Start hopping at Sirius-->Mizarm-->enter to Lepus constellation then hop to stars 15, 11, 13 and 9. find out for double star mag5.5, by using star 13 & 9 as a base line of triangle, double star mag5.5 located at one corner of the triangle. Center at double star mag5.5, M79 locates just 0.5 degree in north-east direction form the star. M79 also locates between double star mag5.5 and star 13 which aligned in straight line. This quite easier hopping session compare to the first time. M79, appeared as faint, round, small but clearly nucleus, at 100x better than 40x. couldn't resolve the stars.
Refer to text: medium concentration, pretty large, extremely rich, well resolved, extend 75 ly. Home
