Magic Knights and Cars

Ever wonder how CLAMP came up with such cool names for the people living in Cephiro? If you answered with cars, you would be correct. Here is a listing along with pictures of both the people of Cephiro and the car models. Magic Knight Rayearth was published in Japan in 1994. All the car model pictures here are before that year.

Princess Emeraude~Pillar of Cephiro
The land of Cephiro had always been protected by Princess Emeraude's prayers until she was "kidnapped" by Sol Zagato. She was trapped in a Water Dungeon where she summoned the Magic Knights to save Cephiro as it was crumbling and filling with monsters born of the fears in people's hearts. Although the Magic Knight's thought Zagato was the enemy for kidnapping Emeraude, and that they were to save the Princess, was that really their true objective? Or were they decieved, having never heard the true legend of the Magic Knights?

"A car? I'm named after a car?! I can't pray over Cephiro anymore knowing this! My heart is too confused! Help! Legendary Magic Knights!"

Guru Clef~Teacher of Magic
Guru Clef taught Alycione her ice magic so that she could protect Princess Emeraude, but she ended up fighting on Zagato's side. When the Magic Knights came to Cephiro, he gave them their magic and evolving armor. He was very puzzled why the magic seemed to choose the girls, instead of him assigning them the magic. He also taught them how to find the magic deep in their hearts. Clef was turned to stone in the anime, so he could only guide the Magic Knights through Mokona, the little marshmellow rabbit.

"Cough!! Cough...hack!...Right...Ahem...Car Summon!"
Mazda Autozam Clef-1992

High Priest Zagato (a.k.a. Sol Zagato)-The high priest who kidnaps Princess Emeraude. He kidnaps Princess Emeraude, and sends out his minions to destroy the Magic Knights to keep them from reviving the Rune-Gods(Mashin). He has the second greatest power in Cephiro next to Emeraude. Zagato appears to be very cruel and evil, but is he really?

"My sports car couldn't impress Emeraude. In fact, it looked so bad, she locked herself in the Water Dungeon. Maybe if I painted the headlights purple..."

Sorceress Alcyone (a.k.a. Alcione)-Was once Princess Emeraude's sorcerress, but then she fell in love with Zagato. Now she is working with him to destroy the Magic Knights. She was trained by Clef to be a sorceress. Like him, she can use Beast Summon. She has fire ice horse that can fly, and ice dogs, called Cerberus(sound familiar from a cardcapting anime?). Her element is obviously ice. She managed to turn Clef into stone, but she failed so many times when trying to destroy the Magic Knights, that Zagato trapped her behind a waterfall. She couldn't seem to take a hint, and she escaped to destroy the Magic Knights again, she came back badly wounded, and Zagato destroyed her even when she begged for mercy.

Subaru Alcyone-1985

Artisan Presea (a.k.a. Pharle Presea)-The best (and only) artisan in Cephiro. She makes and sells weapons to travelers. She lent the Magic Knights their first weapons (a sword, a rapier and a bow with arrows) and also crafted their legendary weapons out of the legendary ore/mineral, Escudo. Presea is a master of disipline, especially with Mokona who messes up her study, and when she thought the Magic Knights were mischievous children who came to destroy her study also. (Shall I hang you from the door frame, or cook you in a little pot?) In the anime, Presea dies when a piece of the dome ceiling falls on her after she crafts the Magic Knights weapons from Escudo.

"Eep!! My car looks like that!? For whoever designed that...DISIPLINE!!! I'm the only artisan in Cephiro! And if I didn't craft it, it doesn't exist!...although, it does look kind of pretty..."
Nissan Presea-1993

Swordmaster Ferio (a.k.a. ???)-Nobody really knows who Ferio is, but he definately has an important position. Ferio has a sword that is as tall as he is. He usually tells lies to protect his identity and to help the Magic Knights against an enemy (i.e. telling Ascot he wants to be his apprentice so he can be just like him, and gambling in poker with Caldina). The Magic Knights are unsure if they can trust him, but Fuu falls in love with him (she has a pretty good skill at being sneaky too).

"Wow...a car...with my name...Where's Fuu?"
