Freedom is an eight year old Basenji mix. She was 6 months old when Charles first saw her. He was working in a restaurant when a lady came in and ordered a bowl of water for "her" dog. Come to find out, she worked in animal protection and was trying to find a home for Freedom (aka "Molly" at the time). Needless to say, it was love at first sight, and the lady brought the dog to his house that evening. She did not respond well to "Molly", but seemed to perk up at the sound of "Freedom", hence the name change.
Basenjis are well-known rabbit hunters, but Freedom is just as happy with squirrels and flying bugs. Basenjis are also known for having several cat characteristics such as bathing themselves. I guess that's a really good thing since she has had to adapt to living with 5 cats in the household! They have all adjusted quite well, though. They all even sleep in the same bed together now. |
