The Dragon Statue
The ivy twirling round the base
And the moss climbing the sides,
I could still hear its piercing cry
As though real through my mind.
The shadow moves across the sky
Just a memory long since past.
Once Id found this special friend,
I knew it was too good to last.

The grayish stone has faded,
The spikes are slowly fallen pieces.
The wind has gently smoothed the marks
And details it releases.

The friend from long ago it was
Survived the years alone.
Centuries it stayed alive
And now, its remembered through stone.
Its piercing cry has haunted me
For years since its passed.
Now its immortalized in stone
And a memory of the past.

I grab the vines from its face
As the rubies shine in the light.
Its eyes red as fire and flame
That even glow at night.

Once this creature flew
And walked the earth back then.
But soon it passed away
And left me friendless when.
Now Ive immortalized him
As a statue in my garden.
This mystical creature from the past;
A dragon, my eternal friend.
This piece was created on October 15, 2002 and is one on friendship between the creatures of real and fantasy worlds.  This explains how friendship can live forever - even in death.
