The majority of Westerners live in areas with urban development. Some of the most important cities in the nation are Western.
Denver
www.denvergov.org
The actual city of Denver, Colorado is actually in the Great Plains, not the Rocky Mountains. But it is really close to the mountains. South Park, a great cartoon is in a fictional town near Denver (pure Western!) and this town is in the mountains (and it seems to be always winter there).

Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California is the largest city in the West by population. It is second only to New York in the nation. It has a really great freeway system if you like freeways.
Phoenix

Salt Lake City, Utah is the center of the Mormon culture, a distinct American subculture existing in the West. Mormon dominance extends into areas of Idaho and Arizona, and the entire West has more Mormons than other areas.
San Diego
www.sandiego.gov
San Diego, California is the second largest city in the West and the sixth in the Nation. They've hosted several recent Super Bowls. They are the home of the fish taco and are right next to the border with Mexico and the Mexican city, Tijuana.

Seattle

Seattle is the where the grunge music trend in the 90's (with bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains) came from, and is the home of Seattle-style coffee, including Starbucks, the world's largest coffee chain. From going to different locations nationally, I've seen that Starbucks uses Tree Top apple juice (for its caramel apple cider) and C&H sugar nationwide.
