Godsrest lies in a gentle curve of the Silver River. The river flows from the distant forested mountains of the northeast, into the rolling plains that surround Godsrest, and continues on to the west. The river widens slightly, and its waters slow, as it curves around the village, and it is rich in fish and water plants. Dangerous water beasts are very rare, and the Wisdom usually has warning from the Spirit of the River when such beasts do venture this far downriver.
The land around Godsrest is rich and fertile, and excellent for farming. Across the river to the south are lush grasslands that are perfect for livestock, and there are numerous flocks of sheep and herds of cattle.
Two leagues to the east of Godsrest lies the start of the Endless Forest, said by Sable Fletcher's foresters to continue to the end of the World, ever thicker and more deadly. Towards the north east the ground begins to rise in forested hills, and the oaks give way to gigantic redwoods. The forest is home to countless species of animals. The most important, to the foresters' way of thinking, are the deer, wild boar, and mighty aurochs that make up the bulk of their prey.
About three leagues north of Godsrest stands the imposing bulk of Circle Lake Mountain. This rugged mountain is covered by pines and evergreens, and the deep blue lake that fills its center is the source of many local myths and legends. The existence of numerous ancient buildings, believed to date to the First Age of Mankind, half buried in the black rock of the mountain just adds to its air of mystery and danger. Children are warned against the ghosts of the ancient dead that haunt these ruins, and despite the sternest warnings every generation sees one or two of its children vanish mysteriously while playing amidst them.
Far downriver to the west other small villages begin to appear along the shores of Silver River, and eventually, some 30 leagues away, the town of Dunhill, a veritable metropolis with its population of some 5,000 people.
