	About Yuriba

Yuriba is an island near the Japanese archipelago, but is not actually a part of the Japanese country or governmental system. Historically, Yuriba has been fairly rich in magical resources, and primarily populated by a small variety of magical races. These tended to live au naturel, or to reside in pocket magical dimensions, thus leaving no mark of town or building upon the land. Unsuprisingly, most who visit the Island end up female, which had, until recent times, been a detriment to human settlement, as the explorers of the past were oft the sort to be strongly attached to their masculinity. Thus, experiencing Nyannichuan tended to lead to the spreading of the rumor that the island was 'cursed'. Roughly 5 years ago, a human named Phil traveled to the island and, like many before him, had an 'encounter' with the cursed pool. Unlike explorers of the past, he (or, more accurately, she) saw the potential inherent in a place that allowed, even encouraged, a fully female population. Taking to his curse with little or no resentment, and adapting the moniker 'Phil-chan', the newly transformed woman set about founding a small village that would act as a retreat and sanctuary for women who enjoyed best the company of those of their own sex. Due to the relatively small size of the island, even a burgeoning population would prevent the town of Yuriba from ever developing into a full fledged city. However, the town building board also tends to discourage such, preferring the friendly, intimate atmosphere of a place where everyone can know your name, and a friend is almost never hard to find. There are a few superstitions regarding the island, mostly in regards to the incredible likelihood of male arrivals fast becoming cursed to turn female. Even if they don't stumble upon such by chance, the female residents are, as a whole, protective of the culture of their home, and a quick glass of water scooped out of a magic pool by an enterprising girl has been the end of many a man's masculinity. Some of those cursed such whisper that it almost seems that the island itself acts out to make certain that no man remains purely so on it's shores overlong. -- Breisleach
		To the left is an excerpt from an article on Yuriban history by Breisleach, one of the Island's most respected residents and a member of the governing council there. (She also happens to be a nine-tailed kitsune who has witnessed most of the island's history personally) Yuriba has a number of magical springs which can transform those splashed or imersed in their waters, causing them to take on their cursed form whenever exposed to cold water, and only returning to normal after being doused with hot water. As a side note, the many mundane hot springs there have no effect on cursed forms, due to the fact that the island's water table is contaminated with trace ammounts of water from the cursed springs runoff. This is not enough to cause one to become cursed, but sufficient magical traces are present to keep one from reverting to normal form by getting into a hot spring. There are a few protected sources of magically filtered water on the island which can cause one to change back and forth between forms (depending on whether hot or cold water is used) and of course rain has the effect of purified cold water, not having been contaminated yet. The vast majority of the springs curse their victims with a female form of some sort. Cat-girls, bunny-girls, and even fox-girls being not uncommon, and of course there is a spring which retains the humanity of the victim, simply rendering them female. Many of the cursed springs have some sort of magical protection on them to prevent accidental exposure, and the rarest forms of curses can only be had by those who actually try, often solving difficult puzzles to bypass the protective spells. Once you get past the cursed springs and the occasional instance of wild magics, the island is a really nice place to live, especially if you happen to already BE female ^_^ Hope this helps explain Kitsune's home a little better.
