GENERAL MEETING: 2/20/01      For those of ;you who were not able to be here for the February meeting, you missed an outstanding presentation by Jan Bahr from Roadhouse Nurseries, Silverdale, WA.  She brought a delightful slide presentation on native pond plants to share with us.  She shared a number of examples of plants which grow will in this local area and also plants appropriate for different sizes of pond areas.  She did not brag on herself, but Jan was recently one of the featured contributors in an article for "West Sound's Guide to Better Living", February 17, 2001 on Waterscapes.  Thanks Jan for sharing your experitse with us and we look forward to having you come again in the future.

The Bowl Show Awards for February were a runaway with our newest member, Chris Perry, taking every prize that evening!

BOARD MEETING: 2/20/2001     The Board decided that we needed to spread the word about our club through the Kitsap County area.  And, what better way to let all the newcomers to our area know we are here than by placing an advertisement in the Newcomer's Packet given to newcomers by the KITSAP GREETER'S SERVICE.  Kitsap Greeters Service has been greeting newcomers to our area for many, many years especially the incoming military families.  Approximately 150 newcomers receive this packet in the Bremerton/Silverdale area alone!  We are looking forward to both visitors and new members as a result of this great resource.

Letters have been sent to our Produce Sponsors and donations are already rolling in for the annual auction during Whaling Days.  Be sure you plan to attend this annual event.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT: 12-31-2000

Once again the year is coming to a close. With it brings the New Year and New Officers. I am sad to say that because of personal problems, I was unable to give a 100% this last year. There were several others that also had personal trials to deal with during this stay. But we are all willing to forge ahead and give it another try. 2001 officers for the Kitsap Aquarium Society  are:

President - Joyce Flint

V. President - Joe Liu

Secretary - Ilene Alvis

Treasurer - Dianne Kienholz

Editor-in-Chief - Mary Carter.

Board members are:  Misty Davis-Fortner, Jack Fortner and Randy Flint. We need two additional board members.

The General Meetings this coming year will be held on the Third Tuesday of each month at the Scout Hall. The Board meeting will commence one-hour prior (6:30pm) to the General meeting. If we need additional time we will schedule to meet on an additional day. With the busy schedules we all have I hope this will help. If it doesn't, we will go back to meeting twice/month.

The Bowl show for January is CLASS A: Anabantids, CLASS B: Bettas CLASS C: Frogs & Toads.

  February will be

CLASS A: Swords & Platies, CLASS B: Mollies & other CLASS C: Monitors & Crocodiles.

If anyone has an idea or person that they would like to have for a program, Please contact me. We want to have a program every month. We will be working hard to increase our membership also.

I hope that this New Year will be the initiation of a renewed beginning for the club. Bring a friend or family member with you to the next meeting. Let's bring back this club to what it was a few years ago!

Dianne Kienholz

SECRETARY'S REPORT:  2-31-2000

Boy, has this fall come and gone in a hurry!   The first of the New Year is upon us and it looks to be an exciting time for the club.  We have a couple of new members...Welcome...  We have some new officers and are still in need of additional board members to serve this year.  The future of the club depends upon each one of us.

In September the Board met and discussed several things regarding the club.  Beth Young of Kitsap Greeters Service came and made a presentation to us for advertising in a Welcome packet for newcomers to the area.  She agreed to advertise for us in two areas, Bremerton and Silverdale for $50 per year.  We will be providing a flyer for inclusion in the packet.  This should reach approximately 100-120 people per month.  Since a lot of the newcomers to the area are military, there will be a good chance that some of them will be interested in becoming a part of the club.

We also discussed keeping the website updated and also the placing of  new flyers in each and every pet store who will give us permission advertising the club.  If you have a particular store that you frequent, won't you ask them if we can put a flyer on their bulletin board?  Or, if you have some suggestions on how we can advertise the club, feel free to let one of the officers or board members know.

Due to illness I was not present at either the regular or board meetings for November and have no minutes for the month of November.

At the December meeting, we enjoyed a lively game of Fish-O.  If you were not there, you missed out on a lot of fun, free stuff!  Be sure that you plan to attend next year!

As we begin this next year, please consider how you can help with the many things that need to be done for the club.  If you need suggestions, just contact one of the officers, we will be glad to help you get started.

It has been a pleasure this year acting as Secretary for the club and I look forward to a great coming year!

Mary Carter, Secretary
