The dull orange colour and decurrent gills characterize these common mushrooms found in coniferous forests. The gills turn a provocative smoky-purple colour as its spores mature.
From a distance, I am often fooled by these mushies while chanterelle hunting. As Homer Simpson would say, Doh!
