In an era where a fine line is drawn between every aspect of our lives, a friend of mine, Jimmy McKee, chose to draw such a line between his love for a beautiful girl and the loyalty he felt toward his friends.

    It was the beginning of Jimmy’s junior year in high school. His shallow thoughts rested upon how great his schedule was, how his friends were after the summer vacation, and what big event would make this year memorable for him. Little did he know that this memorable event it would turn out to be an attraction to a girl named Megan Ellison, who would not want him if he were the last man on earth.

    As we begin, Jimmy is sitting in his English class across from his friend Samantha. Samantha is telling a riveting tale of what she did over the long summer, while Jimmy and Joan take the time to listen in. Unfortunately, Jimmy was not as interested as he thought he was, so consequently Jimmy’s thoughts and feelings began to drift toward another part of the school. He could not believe it, but he was more interested in how Megan was after the summer break than a story being told by one of his friends, even though he knew that she could never care about him.

    Now, let us fast forward through the day, by moving through two class periods and on into lunch, where we will catch up with Jimmy and his friends sitting at a lunch table discussing their classmates. Yes, talking about people behind their backs is very unethical behavior, and yes, Jimmy’s friends did not care about this unethical trait that they possessed. On the other hand, Jimmy knew that this action was wrong and he was raised to know that if you do happen to have a problem with a person, you should talk it out with them on a person to person basis, not behind their backs, but Jimmy’s friends dragged him into this world of deceitfulness that he should never have been a part of. Well, it just so happens that on this day, they had chosen to talk about, make fun of, Megan Ellison. Jimmy, knowing that he should have acted like a man, instead of a mouse, and taken a stand against his friends actions, decided to take part in this senseless act. In other words, he hid his feelings for Megan and went right along with the crowd.

    Finally, let us take one more zip through time, where we will catch Jimmy on the bus ride home talking to his friend Eddy. Unfortunately, Jimmy decided to tell Eddy about his feelings for Megan and how long he has had them.

    Well, everyone knows that a secret between two people is not a secret it is public news. So, Eddy took this newfound news and began to dispense of it freely to those people that he believed could have a possible affect on the outcome of this crush, including Megan’s friends and all of his own friends.

    Sure enough, Eddy and his friends planned it right. Within weeks, Jimmy’s world began to unravel after he revealed his feelings for Megan. The last that anyone has heard about Jimmy and Megan, was that Megan is incredibly angry with Jimmy for his participation in insulting her behind her back, and that Jimmy is mad at himself for not standing up to his friends when he had the chance.

    In conclusion, let us remember an old adage: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In other words, Jimmy should not have cared about what his friends thought of Megan. In fact, he should have told the truth about his feelings for Megan from the beginning and should not have taken the time to explore the art of bunburrying.
