On one of my trips around Lake Tahoe that Jerrie Large took me on was a view of Emerald Bay. You could also see The Tea House Mrs. Knight had built.
The only island in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island is a sparsely wooded, brush-covered upthrust of granite that rises 150 feet above the water. The stone structure on top of the island that looks like a miniature castle is the "Tea House" built in 1929 by Mrs. Knight, who built Vikingsholm Castle. She and her guests would travel by motorboat to be served tea in a 250 square foot room with a fireplace and a large oak table and four oak chairs. Today, only the stone shell remains. She also had Vikingsholm Castle built in 1928.
There are guided tours on week-ends from Mermioral Day to Labor Day.

Wheeler Peak Drive is a spectacular ride in Nevada. You start in semi-desert areas with sagebrush, pion pines and junipers. As you clim they give way to spruce and Douglas Fur . The campground is large . The sites are well spaced among the trees and two meadows. Facilities are good and clean. Water is provided but may be turned off at times. Wildlife is around. There mule deer that come right down into the campsite. There are great hikes out of camp, short, long and strenuous, but all very nice. There are hikes to the Bristlecone Pine Forest, the oldest living things on earth, or the Alpine Lake tour, or top it out at Wheeler Peak, the second highest point in Nevada. We had a great site of Wheeler point from our boondocking site. Great for off road bike riding.
