Blessing For Children One or twice a year, bless your little ones under the full moon. Explain that in the olden days our wise anestors made little images out of clay. These images were birds, bears, wolves, owls, and often the goddess herslef. Making these images was called Skira, the festival of images. Get some terra-cotta and allow your children to make images of living beings out of the clay. As you work the clay like this, you will think of creation stories from around the world and tell how the gods and goddesses created life on the earth by molding bodies from clay. Create magical names for the images brought forth fromt he clay. As the images take shape, empower it with a specail meaning for the child. After the magical name has been chosen, light a white candle and have the children stand in the light. One by one, have the children say I name you (chosen name) and present you to Grandmother Moon. The child bows down, and you sprinkle him or her with blessed droplets from a green bough you have dipped in water. Then to the child say Be well and proteted, (chosen name), and loved! Be healthy, happy, and wise! If the child has a fervent wish, you and he or she can add it into the blessing. To finish the child holds the clay figure up to the moon and then twirls around three times clockwise, saying three times I accept this blessing!
